We offer Equine assisted therapy, incorporating a horse’s environment to support an individual to explore themselves and create a clearer understanding of any difficulties they may be experiencing.
Having a horse present within the therapeutic setting can offer a sense of calm. Horses by nature are prey animals, they live in the moment, they are keen observers and are very aware of movements and emotions around them.
They are excellent at reading nonverbal communication and can be acutely aware of an individual’s emotions. Using feedback from the horse can enable an individual to develop a greater understanding of self.
There are many benefits to equine assisted therapy, here are just a few;
Many individuals struggle with traditional talking therapies and find that using horses in the therapeutic relationship can enable them to engage.
Equine assisted therapy can support individual with a variety of mental health needs – for example;
Trotting to happiness provide an opportunity to spend time with the horses in a natural environment.
Our unbiased and non-judgmental approach enables individuals to interact and engage with our horses and receive positive and honest feedback. This support enables an individual to become more aware of their difficulties and develop ways with the support of the team to overcome them.
Our 11 year old granddaughter (who has ASD, ADHD, DCD, RSD, PDA,Trauma, attachment) has been having sessions at Trotting To Happiness for 6 months as part of a package of interventions to help with her Social Emotional and Mental Health needs. The difference this has made has been remarkable. The horses connect with her in a way people cannot which has allowed Kaye access not normally given outside immediate family.
She is noticeably calmer after the sessions and less stressed making her much more pleasant to be with.
Kaye seems to genuinely care about the young people she works with as well as her horses and teaches them skills they can be proud of and skills they can apply to everyday life.
To say what Kaye has done has been “life changing” is not an exaggeration, we can now go out as a family, which we couldn’t do before, and she is so more able to express herself.
