FAQ's

Equine therapy uses interactions with horses to support mental  health. Guided by a professional, it relies on the horse’s natural sensitivity to human body language to build emotional awareness, trust, and communication.

It incorporates the horse’s environment to support an individual to explore themselves and create a clearer understanding of any difficulties they may be experiencing.

It works because horses are prey animals—they are hyper-aware of body language and react instantly to human emotions, acting as an honest mirror for an individual’s internal state.

  • Mirroring: As prey animals, horses are highly sensitive to body language. If you are anxious, the horse tenses; if you calm down, the horse relaxes, providing instant feedback on your emotional state.
  • Trust Building: ground work activities help you practice boundary-setting, trust, and clear communication without fear of judgment.
  • Being around horses and in nature will help individuals become more grounded and be in the moment.

  • Being outside in the accompany of horses allows the individual to received open honest non judgemental non verbal feedback from the horses.
  • Being outside in the fresh air is fantastic for positive mental well being.
  • It is less pressured than being in an office facing someone and allows for natural conversations to take place.

The natural environment enhances equine therapy in three ways:

Being outdoors in nature (rather than a clinical room) naturally reduces stress and makes individuals more comfortable and able to open up.

Watching horses interact with their herd or react to natural elements provides  lessons on boundaries, communication, and managing unpredictability.

The uneven terrain, open space, and natural sounds help ground anxious or traumatized patients in the present moment.
